Dear friends of Wordsower Africa:

As the Board of Wordsower Africa, we would like to update our community regarding Kim Smith’s health after a very serious car accident in Liberia in July.  Medical exams determined that there was no evidence of broken bones, despite the pain. and he is awaiting the results of a CAT scan of his knee.  Please see  Kim’s message below.  The operation of WSA mission demands frequent travel between Monrovia, Liberia’s capital, and Zwedru, where the WSA headquarters are located. The trip typically takes 12-20 hours, either by for-hire cars, which are badly maintained, overloaded and aggressively driven, or by WSA motorbikes.  Indeed, since his accident in July, Kim has already taken another dangerous trip from Monrovia to Zwedru in such a for-hire car, overloaded with 10 adults and 5 children, and top-heavy with luggage (see the picture below).  Kim and other team members returned from Zwedru to Monrovia on motorbikes, which is also dangerous and taxing.

After 15 years, and with the continued need to travel between Zwedru to Monrovia, we believe it is time for the purchase of a reliable four-wheel drive vehicle for WSA. Owning and responsibly driving and maintaining such vehicle will be a blessing for Kim and the mission, greatly decreasing the risk of accidents.  We are asking the Wordsower Africa community to consider donating to this important cause.  We are seeking to raise $50,000 for such a Toyota Land Cruiser.
